This was such a bittersweet session that I was so honored to get to be a part of. This sweet family from Canada came to Hawaii for some rest and healing after the sudden loss of their dad/husband. As Robert Wyland said, “The ocean stirs the heart, inspires the imagination, and brings eternal joy to the soul.” And these brave souls were in need of some joy.
Mom wanted the session to primarily focus on these sweet boys. She wanted them to be able to just be themselves in the water and on land. I was able to sneak a few photos of Mom with her boys though. I just love the picture of them walking along the beach together with Mom holding the hand of the youngest. I think it captures each one of the boys’ personalities and relationship with their mom.
The boys were quick to get comfortable in front of the camera. Big brother put his arm around his younger brothers and they all posed for their first shot. Right then and there, I knew who was running the shoot, and he did a great job! His younger brothers followed his lead. Whether he was walking along the shoreline, starting to roughhouse, or jumping in the water, his two shadows were right there with him.
I loved seeing their brotherly bond. They were comfortable just walking together in silence as much as they were splashing around with each other in the ocean. They did not shy away from hugs either! I could see how much love these brothers had for one another. I can tell that they will stick through thick and thin with each other, and their grief has only strengthened their brotherly love and friendship. I wish them all the best as this new chapter begins…
