It’s always an honor to document another photographer.  As the ones behind the camera most of the time, we are not in photos with our own children enough.  I notice this with my personal images as well, which is why I make it a priority each year to hire a professional photographer to capture my own family.  So when the opportunity comes along to do the same for a colleague, it often turns into an extra special session as was the case here.  This beautiful mama and her stunning family lit up the afternoon sky with their boundless love for one another.

So this is love, 15 years later. Oh boy is it beautiful! These two are perhaps one of the most inspiring couples I’ve had the honor of capturing in 2014. 15 years of marriage and 3 kids later, they treated themselves to a well-deserved Hawaiian vacation. Just them. When I met up with this fabulous pair on a golden winter afternoon, they were glowing. By the way they looked at each other, you could feel the depth of their relationship and the beauty of their love for one another. What they share transcends time. I know the marriage journey is never smooth sailing, but they sure made it look easy! They chatted and hung out in the pretty afternoon light while I snapped away. I am eternally grateful for the inspiring individuals I have met through my photography journey, and this couple is no exception. Wishing you many more glorious years together!

Happy New Year, Friends! I am writing from beautiful Kaua’i, where we escaped for a bit of R&R.  Heading back to Oahu today, feeling rejuvenated and excited to kick off 2015.

One of my resolutions this year is to stay on top of these blog posts!  Between shooting, editing and life with 3 littles, the blog tends to be neglected, but I am setting my intentions to change this.  These blog posts are one of my favorite bits of the photography process.  Creating a visual diary of the remarkable individuals that I am given the opportunity to capture brings me great satisfaction.

So let’s start with this sweet family.  I love photographing families on vacation because there is an inherent joy that goes along with being in “vacation mode” and this feeling translates so well on camera. These sisters were so fun and their personalities shine through in the images!  But perhaps what really left an impression on me is the love this family shares between each other; so natural and unguarded.  They made my job easy!  Wishing you all a magical 2015….old friends, new friends and friends I have yet to meet. xx

Give me a loving family and pretty light and together we can create magic during our Hawaii family photography session. This stunning family coupled with a glorious Hawaiian morning was no exception as we captured their light inspired love at sunrise on Kailua beach, Oahu. This pretty mama has great style, and brought so many fun ideas to our photo shoot: beach vacation photos; balloons; a cake smash to celebrate her adorable daughter’s birthday; a quick change into suits for a dip in the gorgeous blue sea. What a fun morning with such a great family. Family photography, my happy place. ALOHA.

For the last year-and-a-half, I have been participating in a personal photography project called Cherish this Day with an amazingly talented group of women, all of whom are both moms and photographers. These women have inspired and pushed me to see, appreciate and document the beauty in the daily lives of our children. I am so grateful to be a part of this supportive community of photographers.

I haven’t posted personal work here in awhile, so below you will find a collaboration of images of my littles and our daily life on Oahu, Hawaii that I’ve contributed to CTD over the past few months. As you can see, we spend a lot of time at the beach and outdoors! If this project brings joy to your day or inspires you in some way, please feel free to like our Facebook page. This week’s gorgeous CTD post can be found here.

I’m not sure if there is anything quite like becoming parents for the very first time.  Life changing, yet so hard to imagine what life was ever like without this little person.  Then there’s a year filled with so much learning and so many firsts – first milestones, figuring out how to care for baby, and, of course, the sleep deprivation.  Okay, let’s just glaze over that little detail.  Who needs sleep anyway right? One is definitely worth celebrating; a huge milestone for both baby and parents alike.

So I was more than thrilled when this sweet family contacted me to capture photos of their charming son just a few days shy of his first birthday.  They wanted to document the essence of their little one at this tender age so they could always remember what his world was like at this moment in time. We met up on a beautiful sunny morning at a park that holds a special place in the hearts of mom and dad.  We followed his lead, and off we went, walking, dancing, playing and cuddling.  What’s not to love about this age? The curiosity.  The laughter.  The joy.  Happiest of first birthdays big boy!  This is only the beginning of a beautiful adventure.

Beautiful photos of a beautiful family!ReplyCancel

Rainbows, shave ice and an afternoon on the beach. All the simple makings for a perfect Hawaiian day that I was lucky enough to share with this special family visiting Hawaii on their Make-a-Wish trip.  I loved their easy going style and relaxed vibe which translated so nicely to the moments we were able to capture.  And their remarkable little gal – she was bursting with spunk, charm and personality. Yes, she’s one of those rare individuals who walks into a room and lights it up.  I have a feeling her baby brother is following closely in her footsteps – I can see it in those gorgeous eyes! Wishing for many more days of sunshine and magical rainbows for this beautiful family as they continue along their journey. xx

I was on my phone when I noticed Google telling me there was new content added to a website that I visited so I clicked. It brought me to these beautiful pictures you’ve taken of this great family. You do such an amazing job with your photos. Anyone who has you as their photographer is truely lucky. You have such a talent. I still love our pictures you did for us. You have a gift of being able to capture such special memories and moments between people. Aloha Kim!ReplyCancel

Aloha Marjie! What a delightful surprise to hear from you. You are so sweet – thank you for your kind words! I hope you and your lovely family are doing well. Sending everyone bundles of aloha from Hawaii!!!ReplyCancel

We are in the tiny ages right now with our 3 littles, and, honestly, most days pass in a chaotic blur. Yet, in between the quarrels and tattles, I see something greater being created. This tight little pack of 3 is always there to pick the other up, quick to forgive, and they are the most authentic versions of themselves when they are with one another. SIBLINGS.

Which leads me to this amazing family I had the recent honor of capturing vacation photos for during their stay on Oahu. At the core of this extended family are 4 grown siblings. Behind them, their rock, Mom and Dad. Beside them, their own little families in creation.  These siblings, well,  they’ve got a little something special going on. The manner in which they carry out their relationship with such grace, love and humor is admirable. There is a closeness there that comes from many years of growing and experiencing life together. I can only hope that years from now my littles will share the kind of closeness, unconditional love and friendship that these siblings have been gifted with in their lives. It’s a beautiful thing.

Kimi this is an extraordinary family you have captured on film.
Love all the action and interaction between the siblings and family. You are so creative in your writing. We always love
your description before viewing the photos…and this one about
siblings is so sweet. Love the little reference to Kailani, Kiva

This family is immersed in love! And you captured the essence of their hearts in these beautiful photographs.ReplyCancel

These are the days that pass all too quickly.  The ones we will look back upon, when these littles aren’t so little, and we’ll be instantly  transported to this blissful moment in time.  This gorgeous family hails all the way from Australia – hands down one of my favorite places in the world!  They showed up to our session with open hearts, bright smiles, eager to play and enjoy time with one another.  The golden afternoon sun made its grand appearance and with the beach as our stage,  play away we did! These special parents have a remarkable gift for being present and in the moment with their children.  Their love for one another filled my soul.  Blowing kisses across this deep blue sea to you, sweet friends. xx
